Boom Lift: What is it used for?
Boom lifts are the highest elevated work platforms available. An aerial lift boom lift allows operators to lift and move horizontally and vertically to complete work on outdoor, industrial, maintenance and construction projects. This week's blog describes the concept of a boom lift with an eye on the advantages of using a boom lift in a project.
Boom lift design
A boom lift consists of a platform or bucket located at the end of a hydraulically controlled extension arm attached to a grounded base. The hydraulic control of the arm allows it to be extended horizontally and vertically to transport personnel, materials, and tools to extended heights.
The grounded base of the boom lift is fitted with wheels to provide maneuverability and allow the operator to move the unit into the optimum position to reach the working height and position.

Types of boom lifts
Unlike scissor lifts which only allow up and down movement, Boom lifts allow forward extension and, depending on the type of arm, more flexible movement at high heights.
There are two common types of boom lifts articulated and telescopic.
Telescopic boom lifts, sometimes referred to as straight boom or pole boom lifts, have a single articulated extendable arm that can be extended for some distance.
Articulated boom lifts, sometimes referred to as articulating booms, come from articulated connectors that connect multiple arms to provide extension capability to the unit.
Common uses for boom lifts
Moving boom lifts are the ideal aerial work solution for a wide range of projects and tasks, including
Erection of scaffolding and other construction work
Painting walls and ceilings
General building maintenance tasks, especially outdoors
Lighting work
Signage installation and hanging
Advantages of moving arm lifting
Extended lifting heights
Boom lifts offer the highest lifting height of any lifting work platform. The extended lifting height offered by the boom lift allows workers to reach even the highest working areas.

Increased flexibility and maneuverability
Articulated boom lifts offer increased flexibility and maneuverability in getting the job done. Their multi-arm design allows the operator's platform and basket to be moved precisely to get the job done in hard-to-reach or confined spaces.
Easy Size Adjustment
The joints on the boom lifts allow the arm to be extended or retracted as required. This adjustable size makes it easier to bring the boom lift into any work area, regardless of size.
Single and double operator buckets and platforms
Depending on the job requirements, the boom lift bucket and work platform can carry a single or double operator to get the job done.
Diesel Articulating Boom Lift
Multiple fuel types
Boom lifts can be used with a variety of fuel types including diesel, battery electric, and even hybrid power units. Diesel lifts are ideal for outdoor use on construction sites, where the extra power of the diesel engine can easily move the unit over uneven ground.
Battery electric units are free of exhaust fumes and quotes, so they can be used safely indoors.
Hybrid units offer the ultimate flexible lifting solution, as their fuel source can be switched depending on the work area, allowing the same unit to
operate in all conditions, indoors and outdoors.
Getting around obstacles
The multiple hydraulic arms of an articulating boom lift allow the operator platform or bucket to move over, under, or around obstacles.
This gives the operator unobstructed access to all areas.
